Looking to apply for Home Economics PGDE but only have Nutrition Related Degree?

At Sew Confident we can get your sewing skills up to a competent level and our courses are approved by Strathclyde, Dundee and Aberdeen University! And both our Dundee and Glasgow classes are taught by tutors who are nearing the end of their own PGDE so you can pick their brains about the course too!
We have liased with the course leaders from Strathclyde, Dundee and Aberdeen university to bring you a course that is not only great fun, and social but also counts as a competent level of sewing for you to gain entry to your PGDE in Home Economics. All day courses include your lunch and evening course include tea and biscuits so you can get to know your fellow applicants!
We also know students can be a bit strapped for cash(we've all been there) so not only are our courses affordable you can also get a 10% student discount if you send an email from your university email address. Alternatively your undergraduate course leader may email out the code. If students wish to do another course to further their skills they can also use the 10% off code for this!
In the class you will learn all the machine basics such as threading, winding the bobbin, and of course trouble shooting! Then we will move onto several small projects to get your confidence up and teach you lots of techniques that you can pass onto your pupils in the future.

This course is suitable for those wishing to apply for the Home Economics PGDE(At Strathclyde, Aberdeen or Dundee University) who do not have competent sewing experience. You do not need to have any prior sewing knowledge.
The PGDE Bootcamp is held in the Sew Confident studio in the adorable Hidden Lane. Your lunch is included in the price and will consist of soup and a sandwich.
This course is designed to build the knowledge and confidence necessary to apply for your post grad in Home Economics. We have liaised with the course leaders from Strathclyde, Dundee and Aberdeen University to create a course they accept as a required level of competency in sewing.
You will complete a number of projects over 2 days. Each will introduce you to a new skill or technique and give you something to take home and be proud of! Projects include:
Tote Bag - You will learn how to make a tote bag perfect for carrying your shopping(or your sewing supplies!). This project is an introduction to construction, seam allowances, cutting techniques, French seams and pinning techniques.
Bunting - You will learn how to make a string of the ever popular bunting. This session is designed to increase your sewing confidence and introduces intricate pinning and stitching as well as how and when to use bias binding.
Zipped Make-up Bag - You will progress to learning how to insert a zip and a lining. Zips and linings are feared by many but you will leave with a sense of achievement and a cute make up bag to show off your new skills.
Piped Cushion - The final set project is a piped cushion. You will learn how to make and insert your own piping and practise your new zip insertion skills. The finished cushion will look just as professional as anything you might find in the shops!
Sew Confident is a fun, social learning environment where peer support comes as standard! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN SEWING MACHINE as machines are provided. Lunch is also included in the course price.
