Have you always fancied trying you hand at quilting? Want to make your own works of art in fabric? Look no further than the Sew Confident Quilting for Beginners class!

With our fabulous tutor Sandra you will make a 40.5" x 55" quilt. Perfect as a new baby present or for yourself to keep you cosy on the couch in winter. Sandra is a machine and hand quilt enthusiast who studied illustration and print making. Her quilts are incredible!

You will learn all about the different tools, cutting techniques, different layouts, pressing techniques and how to line everything up and sew it perfectly, and loads more! This quilt is made using the sewing machine but some hand finishing techniques are also included.

Some prior sewing experience necessary. You only need very basic sewing skills, if you are unsure get in touch!

Sew Confident is a fun, social learning environment where peer support comes as standard! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN SEWING MACHINE as machines are provided.

This course is suitable for complete beginners or those who are looking to get back into sewing after a long break. Your lunch is included in the price and will consist of soup and a sandwich.

It is designed to build the knowledge and confidence necessary to complete your own projects and progress to a more advanced level of sewing - a great starting point!

You will complete a number of projects over 2 consecutive Saturdays/Sundays. Each will introduce you to a new skill or technique and give you something to take home and be proud of! Projects include:

Tote Bag - You will learn how to make a tote bag perfect for carrying your shopping(or your sewing supplies!). This project is an introduction to construction, seam allowances, cutting techniques, French seams and pinning techniques.

Bunting - You will learn how to make a string of the ever popular bunting. This session is designed to increase your sewing confidence and introduces intricate pinning and stitching as well as how and when to use bias binding.

Zipped Make-up Bag - You will progress to learning how to insert a zip and a lining. Zips and linings are feared by many but you will leave with a sense of achievement and a cute make up bag to show off your new skills.

Piped Cushion - The final set project is a piped cushion. You will learn how to make and insert your own piping and practise your new zip insertion skills. The finished cushion will look just as professional as anything you might find in the shops!

There is also allocated time for you to start your own project with supervision.

This course is suitable for those wishing to apply for the Home Economics PGDE(At Strathclyde, Aberdeen or Dundee University) who do not have competent sewing experience. You do not need to have any prior sewing knowledge. 

Your lunch is included in the price and will consist of soup and a sandwich.

This course is designed to build the knowledge and confidence necessary to apply for your post grad in Home Economics. We have liaised with the course leaders from Strathclyde, Dundee and Aberdeen University to create a course they accept as a required level of competency in sewing.

Machine Doodles Class DUNDEE [Mar] INCL MATERIALS

Learn to use your machine to doodle and sketch on fabric and find out why Kirsty Allsop calls free motion embroidery the crack cocaine of craft… 

You’ll have chance to try coloured and variegated threads, use fusibles to add fabric appliqués or pretty up your artwork with fabric dyes and paints. 

Materials will be supplied, including a 6inch hoop to finish your artwork for displaying, but if you have any fabric scraps, pictures that make you smile or your heart sing, or thoughts on a scheme you would like to follow then bring all of those along with you too!
