Tutor - Sandra
Sandra is a fabulous modern quilter and takes all our quilting and embroidery classes in Dundee. She's super creative with a great eye for print and colour and a passion for all things patchwork!
How long have you been sewing for?
I've been sewing for around 12 years now. I started making soft toys on my Mum's old sewing machine before splashing out on my own. Over the years i have spent my spare time sewing anything from bunting to Christmas Stockings before realising my passion for patchwork and quilting. Most recently i have discovered a new love for hand sewing and spend evenings in front of the tv doing some English Paper Piecing or embroidery.
Have you always been interested in fashion?
I have always taken a keen interest in fashion and have worked for many years managing High Street clothing retailers.
What are your qualifications?
I have a degree in Illustration and Printmaking from Duncan Of Jordanstone College Of Art, Dundee.
What is the most difficult thing you have ever made?
It would have to be one of my many works in progress. I am making a large quilt top using English Paper piecing (a technique where you wrap fabric around paper templates before sewing together), i am planning the design myself and trying to achieve a kind of kaleidoscope effect within the pattern.... it's going to keep me busy for a long time to come i think!
What is your favourite fabric to work with?
It would have to be some good quality quilters cotton and it will no doubt have some quirky print or repeat pattern i can fussy cut until my heart's content!
What other interested do you have apart from sewing?
I love going out for a nice meal or meeting up with friends for a good old catch up when i get the chance.
